Dead To Me is the new Netflix original series from creator Liz Feldman. It is a character drama tracks the journey of a grieving widow Jen (Christina Applegate) and a free-spirited women Judy (Linda Cardellini).
The show opens with the usual predictable tropes, but by the end of the first episode, one is engaged to the proceedings thanks to the performances by the leading ladies. Also, the hint of drama that is built is enough to suck the viewers in.
The episodes that follow get better with more character development and a delicate balance of comedy and drama that keeps us thoroughly engaged. The former is fresh with lots of quirky and awkward humour in place whereas the latter follows a familiar but ultimately satisfying arc. Amidst all this a neat suspense is built to get to an emotional conflict.
The actors and the writing are bang-on. The ladies Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini share great chemistry and are a significant reason for our connection with the narrative. The story is alright, but the way it is narrated hooks one easily.
With such a positive beginning, the expectations are sure to increase with follows next. Watch this space for our complete review to know if Dead To Me delivers all the way or fizzles down the line.
