To nobody’s surprise, its most recent theatrical venture ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, has not only kept fans waiting for months, but has officially become one of the biggest films of the year! After just three days of release, the Disney Marvel genre-blending epic has proven to be a record-breaker.
The superhero sequel unites superstars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as their career defining roles: the foul-mouthed Deadpool and the intensely angsty Wolverine respectively. The blockbuster feature has already generated USD 233M at the international box office and $438M globally.
This is to say, that it stands only behind ‘Inside Out 2’, ‘Dune: Part Two’, ‘Despicable Me 4’, ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’, and ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ in terms of worldwide ticket sales of the year. However, with the better portion of its theatrical run laying ahead, the film is effortlessly expected to cross the USD 1B benchmark, and even become the highest-grosser of the year!
What’s more is that ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ is also on the run to leave behind the one and only R-rated title in the billion-dollar club: 2019’s Joaquin Phoenix led ‘Joker’. While both prequels in the ‘Deadpool’ franchise became the highest-grossing R-rated films of all time, nothing less is expected from this installment!
