Deadpool & Wolverine Isn’t Deadpool 3, Says Shawn Levy

Deadpool & Wolverine helmer Shawn Levy has revealed that the upcoming MCU movie won’t serve as a direct sequel to Deadpool 2. Instead of being Deadpool 3, the film will be “a two-hander character adventure”.

Levy attended this year’s CinemaCon event to promote Deadpool & Wolverine. There, he had an exclusive interview with ScreenRant where he discussed the film. He disclosed how his forthcoming project differed from the previous two Deadpool entries.

“As far as crafting the Deadpool and Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you’re talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles. It also gave me an opportunity. It’s the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not Deadpool 3. It’s a different thing that’s very much Deadpool and Wolverine. And it’s not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure.”

Levy’s comments make sense as they now guarantee that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine won’t have just a cameo role in the film. Fans will witness him in a full-fledged role, which would sit well with all the Marvel fans. This scenario will also benefit the film’s box office collections. Wolverine’s addition to Deadpool & Wolverine has made it a whole lot bigger than the first two Deadpool movies. This scenario looks similar to the title of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, which equally focused on Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly.

In addition, Shawn Levy disclosed in his interview that the early screenings of Deadpool & Wolverine were “extremely promising”. This is a positive sign for Marvel Studios, considering the production house has only one theatrical release this year.

Shawn Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive in theatres worldwide on July 26, 2024. It stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, Rob Delaney, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
