After Madhuri Dixit’s The Fame Game, Netflix India has been struggling badly for any successful series.
Ever since then, they haven’t tasted a series that is getting celebrated by the audience. All they get is a practically obscure series that does not stand against the original series of other Indian platforms let alone the International one.
Disney+Hotstar with Ghar Waapsi and Prime Video with Suzhal made a lot of noise. Meanwhile, Netflix was busy making shows like Masaba Masaba, Indian Matchmaking, and whatnot.
Quite obviously, the audience downright rejected those series and they came out to be pathetic not only in content but also performance.
But, Netflix is currently ruled by Delhi Crime Season 2. The show starring Shefali Shah in the lead role received widespread appreciation and it justifies the original first season.
Not only that, the Twitter reactions make it obvious that people are watching the series. The fate of the series is not like that of Sacred Games where people were disappointed with the second season.
Netflix badly needed a good and successful series and Delhi Crime Season 2 has come up with such a fortuity.
It is high time Netflix rethinks what works for “them”. Because Delhi Crime is not about gangsters or abuses or massy action heroes. It is a female-led series backed by a strong script and brilliant performances.
A “good show” will always work for any platform. What they need is content and marketing strategy. Thankfully, Netflix did everything right in this specific case.
