Demonte Colony 2, became one of the most successful Tamil films of the year and created a new record for highest opening day collection for a film in Tamil Nadu. In its first week itself, the movie earned a huge collection of 20 crores. The makers were very pleased with its performance despite clashing with some great films like Thangalaan and Stree 2, and now Vaazhai. The makers decided to release the movie in Telugu dub to increase its reception, and finally the Telugu dub was released last Friday. The results of the second week collection though, have been shocking for the movie as it failed in Telugu.
The movie collected 20 crores in the first week while being released in Tamil only. But as it progresses in its second week, it has only recorded a collection of about 10 crores despite being available in two languages now. In the four days of its Telugu release, the movie has only earned 1.40 crores in Telugu dubs which accounts for even less than 20% of the total collection. The highest earning in a day from Telugu dub screenings for the movie has been of 0.45 crores which is disappointing. The makers were quite confident with the movie and were hoping for a grand welcome from the Telugu audience which misfired badly.
Possible reasons can be first, it might be possible that the makers could not delve into the Telugu market at the time of the release of the film. This led to many Telugu speaking people watching the movie in original Tamil language as the languages are quite similar. Hence, when the dub was released, the audience didn’t feel like going to the cinema to watch a film they had already watched in the original language. This led to the excitement for the dub release diminishing for people. Also, the availability of multiple movies which includes the re release of Chiranjeevi’s Indra led to the lesser excitement of people for this movie. Hence the low reception.
Nonetheless, the makers had hoped for a sales boost after the release of the movie in Telugu dub. Little had they anticipated such a fall for the dubbed release of the movie.
