This film is being helmed by Joel Coen, one brother of the famous director-duo – the Coen brothers.

It was recently announced by New York Film Festival’s presenting organization Film at Lincoln Centre that ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’ had been selected as the reputed festival’s opening night film, which will have its world premiere on September 24, 2021.

The film is one of the many on-screen adaptations of the legendary tragic play by the illustrious word-master William Shakespeare. One of the unique aspects of the film is that it’s been shot in black and white.

Regarding the festival premiere, Joel Coen had stated that “The New York Film Festival is a place where I’ve been watching movies as an audience member and showing them as a filmmaker for almost 50 years. It’s a real privilege and a thrill to be opening the Festival this year with The Tragedy of. . .”

Not many people might know that ‘Nomadland’ actress Frances McDormand is married to the film’s director Joel Coen since 1984. Incidentally, the gifted performer was also a part of 1996 cult crime film ‘Fargo’ that was helmed by both Joel Coen and Ethan Coen. McDormand had eventually bagged the Best Actress Oscar Award for her performance in the film.

Given the intense nature of The Tragedy of Macbeth’s premise owing to its riveting source material, and considering the acting prowess of Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand, both these actors have a high probability of being considered for next year’s Academy Awards contenders. However, that remains to be seen after the film’s release.

‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’ is slated for a theatrical release and will be subsequently followed by a worldwide OTT release on Apple TV+ platform.
