Desperate To Make Records, Sooryavanshi Makers Change Strategy

Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Sooryavanshi’ is all set to hit theatres on the occasion of Diwali. The film already has an edge over other Bollywood releases this year, considering it has a two week solo run at the box office, since there are no films releasing between the 4th and 19th November. Director Rohit Shetty was credited for his relentless efforts in the reopening of cinema theatres in Maharashtra, thereby picking the best release date for his film. However, there has been a slight shift in strategy to ensure ‘Sooryavanshi’ does the numbers. Read on to know what it is.

Sooryavanshi‘ was to earlier release on Diwali day, November 4th, but now will be releasing on the 5th, a day after Diwali. The shift in plan is probably due to the fact that people will be busy in the festivities and the film may not rake in the desired numbers on the first day. Desperate to set records and announce a huge first day collection, the makers have decided to opt for a one day delay instead. The hype for ‘Sooryavanshi’ is only growing by the day with the additional tadka of the ‘Singham’ and ‘Simmba’ stars Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, apart from the lead hit pair of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.

News of ‘Sooryavanshi’s theatre count already came in earlier today, with the film expected to do some serious magic at the box office, releasing in over 3500 screens, out of which 850 are in Maharashtra alone. While Akshay’s last film, ‘Bell Bottom’ only had roughly 1600 screens in India (since some states hadn’t reopened theatres), ‘Sooryavanshi’ will now have more than double that number. Where Maharashtra alone is expected to have more than 1000 operational screens (around 500 multiplex and 500 single screens) by Diwali, cinema theatres in the rest of India, that were shut earlier, are optimistic about a comeback for the festive season. Indeed, ‘Sooryavanshi’ will turn out to be the much needed Diwali Dhamaka and with this new strategy, is likely to also see some record-breaking figures at the box office.
