One more week is over as we head into April. Though T.S. Eliot famously said, “April is the cruellest month, breeding/Lilacs out of the dead land,” the box office tells a different story. “Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote,” quite the Chaucerian spirit, as Godzilla vs. Kong opens with a bang, promising a prosperous April indeed.
Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire kicks off with a massive $80M, dominating the top spot, but who were the best of the rest?
While Godzilla overshadowed other titles, the old players are holding strong. Dune 2 and Kung Fu Panda 4 continue to contribute massively to the box office.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire takes the second spot in the market, earning $15.7M this weekend, bringing its total domestic collection to $73.4M.
Dune 2, on the other hand, maintains its massive box office run, embodying the spirit of longevity in the market. It collected $11.1M domestically this week, bringing its total domestic collection to $252.4M. But there’s even better news for Dune fans.
The film has surpassed the $600M mark, a massive achievement for the franchise. Additionally, Timothée Chalamet fans have a lot to celebrate as Wonka and Dune 2 battle for supremacy.
Sydney Sweeney is back in the box office race, this time not with Anyone But You, but with the horror film Immaculate, which collected $3.3M.
Now, onto the top 5 followed by others:
Arthur The King manages to grab the sixth spot, grossing $2.4M, followed by Late Night With The Devil, another horror film which grossed $2M.
The US is also enjoying the Indian spice as two Indian films make their place in the charts. Tillu Square featuring Siddu Jonnalagadda and Anupama Parameswaran occupies the eighth place with $1.8M, followed by Crew.
Tabu, Kareena Kapoor, and Kriti Sanon form the trifecta of entertainment, with their film grossing $1.5M in the USA market.
Imaginary rounds out the top 10 as the third horror film on the list, grossing $1.4M, despite abysmal ratings.
