Showtime’s critically acclaimed ‘Dexter’ sequel series ‘Dexter: New Blood’ gave the show a much-needed revival after the critically panned Season-8 of the parent ‘Dexter’ series. ‘Dexter: New Blood’, which premiered in November 2021, saw the terrific cancer surviving actor Michael C. Hall reprising his role as the titular antihero.
For diehard Dexter fans who have been eagerly waiting for an update on ‘Dexter: New Blood’ Season-2, we have one good news and one bad news for you. Bad news first. It has just been revealed (via TV Line) that ‘Dexter: New Blood’, which was earlier said to be ostensibly moving forward with a second season, has now been cancelled despite the massive success of the show.
But ‘Dexter’ fans needn’t be disappointed because a ‘Dexter’ prequel series which will focus on a younger version of your favorite next door serial killer is on the cards and is being purportedly considered by Showtime. Besides the ‘Dexter’ prequel, other new iterations are also on the cards and are being thought over.
The probable reason for ‘Dexter: New Blood’ S2 cancellation and consideration of a young Dexter prequel series might be that the makers didn’t want to move forward with the idea of conceptualizing a project without featuring Dexter Morgan’s character. Because that has always been the show’s focal point. That’s why they might be considering a younger version of Dexter as the lead.
Moreover, since Showtime is about to merge with Paramount Plus, they may be brainstorming about the best way forward to extend the franchise because no one would like its hot selling property to come to an end. In India, all eight seasons of the parent series ‘Dexter’ are streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Voot. And ‘Dexter: New Blood’ is streaming on the Voot OTT platform.
