‘Dexter: New Blood’ Villain To Star In HBO Max Series ‘The Penguin’

Even before Matt Reeves’ globally admired superhero movie ‘The Batman’ came out in theatres, work for a spin-off series based on the disfigured criminal Penguin had already begun. The show is now being developed as an eight-part HBO Max limited series and recent Golden Globes winner Colin Farrell will reprise his role as Batman’s well-known adversary Penguin.

And now, as per the latest update, the HBO Max limited series ‘The Penguin’ has cast veteran actor Clancy Brown. He will essay the role of the formidable mob boss Salvatore Maroni. In the earlier live-action Batman projects, the role of the powerful Gotham City gangster was played by Dennis Paladino (Batman Forever), Eric Roberts (Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight), and by David Zayas (Gotham series).

Clancy Brown, who was recently seen as the main villain in ‘Dexter: New Blood’ series starring Michael C. Hall, was also the main villain ‘The Kurgan’ in the popular action-fantasy film ‘Highlander’. He is the same actor who played Captain Hadley in the cult prison drama ‘The Shawshank Redemption’. And the adept performer will next be seen in Keanu Reeves starrer ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’.

As far as the storyline of ‘The Penguin’ series is concerned, it is expected to be set after the events shown in the Robert Pattinson starrer movie ‘The Batman’. Its treatment was earlier reported to be similar to Al Pacino starrer crime classic ‘Scarface’. The show will likely continue the story arc of Penguin aka Oswald Cobblepot’s character played to perfection by Colin Farrell. ‘The Batman’ helmer Matt Reeves is the executive producer and Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) is the showrunner. ‘The Penguin’ release date and precise plot details are currently not known.
