While you were sleeping peacefully last night after your binge-fest, your next-door serial killer Dexter Morgan evidently wasn’t. Premium television network Showtime’s arguably most popular series ‘Dexter’ dropped a brand-new trailer for its upcoming season that has been aptly titled ‘Dexter: New Blood’ during a recently held Comic-Con@Home event.
During the panel interaction that included the show’s titular actor Michael C. Hall along with showrunner Clyde Phillips, executive producers Marcos Siega and Scott Reynolds, and the show’s newcomer Julia Jones, it was also revealed that ‘Dexter: New Blood’ will release on Showtime on November 7, 2021.
In what is being described as a revival season, the ninth season of Dexter would comprise ten episodes and would see the vigilante serial killer living under disguise in a fictional town called Iron Lake under a new name – Jimmy Lindsay. The series is apparently set nearly ten years after the eighth season’s unanimously criticized finale.
Regarding the revival season, Clyde Phillips stated that “It was important that this not be Dexter season 9. We wanted to acknowledge that nearly 10 years have passed and we pick up with Dexter being in another place far away from Miami.”
Michael C. Hall also made an interesting remark about the last season’s finale and the new season: “Along with everybody on this panel and along with everybody who’s ever watched the show and is a fan of the show, I myself have also wondered what the hell happened to this guy. I think enough has time has passed and the storytelling opportunities were a lot more interesting for having more time between the end and now.”
Earlier, it was also made aware that the show’s characters namely Debra Morgan (played by Jennifer Carpenter) and the Trinity Killer (played by John Lithgow) would make a comeback through flashback sequences. While the show’s newcomer Julia Jones would be playing Iron Lake’s Chief of Police and Dexter’s apparent connection with his ‘victims’.
With just over three months left for the premiere of ‘Dexter: New Blood’, fans of the show would be eager to know what’s in store for their favorite serial killer, and this time, how would the show end? Would the ninth season finale also seal Dexter’s fate in the way that all fans secretly fear? That can only be known on November 7 this year. Meanwhile, stay tuned to Binged and watch the show’s trailer below.
