Team ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ received quite a backlash for the mismanagement and tiring long delays at its trailer and audio launch event held recently. But this isn’t about that, rather it’s regarding another pretty interesting thing that was noticed at the event and some others that were held in Chennai and Hyderabad.
At these events the makers of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ did not shy away at all from openly displaying the logo of its most likely post theatrical run streaming partner Amazon Prime Video. The platform’s name was displayed each time after the film’s poster came up on the huge LED screens available at such events.
Usually, makers of a tentpole film like ‘PS1’ wish to keep the film’s OTT platform a secret for as long as possible to make the maximum out of it’s theatrical run and convince more and more audience to experience the epic saga on the big screen.
But this wasn’t the case for Mani Ratnam’s dream project. On the contrary, it was heavily promoted indicating the confidence the makers of ‘PS1’ have in their work and how the end results have turned out.
While this platform reveal could be a part of team ‘PS1’ and Amazon Prime Video’s early premiere exclusive deal, it does discourage a certain set of viewers from going out, spending money on tickets and catching the film in cinemas when they already have a subscription for the platform.
