The box office is running wild, with “Godzilla vs. Kong” sitting at the very throne. But it comes with a fear; someone can throw you out of the pinnacle and occupy it. This time, “Monkey Man” was in the race, but how successful was it?
“Godzilla vs. Kong,” emerging as the ‘best’ Monsterverse film, is still dominating the box office, with a weekend run of $31.7M in total. Though the past week’s collection has been astronomical, it saw a 60% drop when it comes to domestic collections.
On the other hand, “Monkey Man,” with all the positive reviews, delivers a strong performance at the box office. Now, in terms of numbers, it is far lower than “Godzilla vs. Kong,” but during its first weekend, it recouped its entire budget.
It grossed around $10.1M during the past weekend and might be a good start for the directing career of Dev Patel. But some fans are skeptical about the numbers, and they might be on the wrong side here.
See, this isn’t a Barbenheimer event, and if it were the opening weekend for “Godzilla vs. Kong,” then things would have been a bit different as the audience would have had a hard time deciding. And practically speaking, the audience for both films is much different, so there is a very less chance of clashing.
“Monkey Man” isn’t really harming the box office collection of “Godzilla vs. Kong,” and vice versa.
