Did ‘Vidaamayurachi’ Become A Victim Of Star Stigma?

Ajith Kumar starter ‘Vidaamayurchi’ released in cinemas earlier this month and now we have its digital premiere date. Inspired from 1997 American film ‘Breakdown’ and directed by Magizh Thirumeni, ‘Vidaamayurachi’ is set to land on Netflix on 3rd March, 2025.

‘Vidaamayurachi’ was neither a box office success not did it stand well with the audience or critics. The film was criticised for a poor storyline and narration. It was said that it lacked an emotional arc and the much needed gravitas. Moreover, the film felt predictable and the screenplay was not upto speed.

But there were also opinions that ‘Vidaamayurachi’ failed commercially because it wasn’t a cliched hero centric film and was quite experimental. It was a film for a niche audience and therefore could not impress the masses.

So would it have worked better if it was released direct-to-digital instead of the big theatrical event? Did Ajith Kumar’s stardom led to some wrong decisions by the makers?

Ajith Kumar is a prominent figure of the film industry and his films are meant for big screens. He has a huge fan base and no producer or director would want to disappoint them with a low-key OTT release.  Also, big stars means big collections and who would wish to miss out on that.

But looks like ‘Vidaamayurachi’ would have  found better reception on streaming platform where it would have found its audience and maybe even the appreciation it was looking for.

Well, we’ll get to know if that was the case or not as ‘Vidaamayurachi’ premieres on Netflix on March 3rd.
