I guess all of us must have dreamt of watching a movie alone, especially when you hear the annoying noise from the back or front rows that are disturbing your cinematic experience. Guess what! You can actually rent a whole theatre to yourself for practically nothing.
Yes you heard that right, theatres in Mangaluru are now giving you the chance to rent an entire screen for the trivial cost of Rs 1,999 and if you think that even that is too much of a burden, then you also have the option of purchasing the entire gold or premium class for Rs 500.
They say that necessity is the mother of invention and this unique initiative by the theatres in Mangaluru are born more out of necessity than out of want. Many businesses have been badly hit by this crisis and are just trying their best to stay afloat, forget about making a profit.
The entertainment industry is one such business with many of the lower wrung employees having to suffer the major repercussions of the lockdown. Getting things back on track will undoubtedly be a long and stressful process with the rise of OTT platforms with several films preferring a direct release on such platforms.
Hence theatres are trying to make an offer that the customer certainly cannot refuse, and you have to admit that this leaves you awestruck doesn’t it?
The theatres have received 35- 40 enquiries so far. Their spokesperson has gone on record to say that “We have to see how many of these inquiries are converted into transactions.”. all of this begs us to ask the question ‘Would you want to go to a theatre in the midst of a pandemic especially? That too, when OTT platforms bring you more and more content at the tip of your finger and the comfort of your home.
