The highly anticipated MCU superhero movie ‘Deadpool 3’ is slated to be released in theatres on 3rd May 2024, if things go as scheduled and if the ongoing strikes don’t delay the film. As you all know, the Deadpool threequel features Ryan Reynolds as the titular mercenary Wade Wilson aka Deadpool and Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as the massively popular character Wolverine / Logan.
‘Deadpool 3’ is being directed by Shawn Levy, whose directorial filmography consists of movies like ‘The Pink Panther’, ‘Night at the Museum’, ‘Real Steel’, ‘Free Guy’, and most recently ‘The Adam Project’. to name a few. He is also geared up for the release of the Netflix series ‘All the Light We Cannot See’ later this year.
Coming back to ‘Deadpool 3’, recently, Shawn Levy has given some updates about the production status and other things for the upcoming superhero movie. The Canadian filmmaker has revealed that the production for the movie has been paused as of now because of the strikes. About the filming status, ‘Deadpool 3’ is halfway through its filming schedule.
Levy further stated that he is not going to interfere with the basic DNA of the ‘Deadpool’ film series and that ‘Deadpool 3’ is very much R-rated. So that’s good news for Deadpool fans.
Moreover, interestingly, Shawn Levy also teased that ‘Deadpool 3’ is kind of a descendant of films like ‘Midnight Run’ and ’48 Hours’, etc. For the unversed, ‘Midnight Run’ was a highly entertaining action buddy road comedy movie starring Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin in the lead roles. And this comparison implies that the makers of ‘Deadpool 3’ are thinking in the right direction because their inspiration material is spot on.
Shawn Levy also said that ‘Deadpool 3’ is going to be a film which will be as much as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine as that of the titular superhero Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. So, their on-screen chemistry should certainly be worth looking forward to by fans.
A few months back, it was also revealed that Jennifer Garner will be back in the role of the highly skilled sai-wielding assassin Elektra. The 51-year-old actress had played the role of Elektra in the 2003 superhero movie ‘Daredevil’ starring Ben Affleck as the titular protagonist. Two years later, she featured as a lead in her own solo superhero movie titled ‘Elektra’. The inclusion of Jennifer Garner as Elektra is another instance after Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine which will feature older non-MCU Marvel characters in an MCU movie. In this case, ‘Deadpool 3’.
