The prequel to 2019 live-action movie ‘The Lion King’ has been announced by Disney Studios and it has been titled ‘Mufasa: The Lion King‘. The teaser trailer was premiered in the D23 Expo but has not been posted from Disney‘s twitter handle till now.
It will be directed by Oscar-winning Barry Jenkins of ‘Moonknight’ fame. It has been announced that Aaron Pierre will be voicing Mufasa and Kevin Harrison Jr. will be voicing Scar, the evil brother of Mufasa. Hans Zimmer is another reason to wait for Mufasa. He will return to work with the music of the prequel and will be helped by Pharrell Williams and Nicholas Britell.
The film will deal with the story of young Mufasa and Scar. Barry Jenkins says this is the ‘story of Mufasa’s rise to royalty’. The film may have romantic elements about Mufasa and Sarabi and how they met. The backstory of the evil brother Scar and why he ended up with such a bitter attitude towards his graceful and majestic brother can be told in this too.
The 2019 live-action remake of the 1994 animated movie with the same name did not do the expected business and critics said that too much realism affected the emotions of the characters. Let’s hope that does not happen with ‘Mufasa’ as well and that Disney learns from past experience. If Shahrukh Khan dubs for Mufasa as he did for The Lion King, there is a probability for better success in India.
Not much about the plot is revealed but Mufasa’s struggles are definitely going to be different from Simba’s. His backstory and rise to power will definitely be worth watching.
