While Netflix and Prime Video have gone into an overdrive of festival-flavoured romantic dramas to bring in the Christmas season on streaming, Disney Plus has decided to take a different content route for the same. The content behemoth will premiere a heartwarming short film this Christmas season. Titled ‘The Shepherd’, the upcoming Disney Plus film is the perfect Christmas miracle story, to infuse hope and cheer into the upcoming holiday season.
The short film ‘The Shepherd’ will release on Disney Plus on 1st December 2023, the best start to the month of December there can be for Christmas content enthusiasts. The Shepherd is a tale of hope, wonder and miracles. It embodies the true spirit of Christmas, promising a goosebumps-inducing experience to those who choose to watch it.
The Shepherd is set on the Christmas Eve of 1957. It follows a young pilot going home for Christmas, who lands in a perilous situation mid-air. As he fast loses hope of making it alive out of his predicament, a mysterious fellow airman miraculously appears out of nowhere, and guides him to safety. The film is adapted from the 1975 novella of the same name, written by Frederick Forsyth.
The film stars Ben Radcliffe in the role of the young pilot. Academy Award nominee John Travolta plays the mysterious airman. Steven Mackintosh, Asan N’Jie, Millie Kent, Luca Slade and Scarlet Grace form the rest of the cast. Iain Softley has directed and written the film. Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuaron, along with Bill Kenwright, Richard Johns and Gabriela Rodriguez are producers on the film.
The official synopsis of ‘The Shepherd’ reads – “A young pilot flying home finds himself in peril when his radio and electric power cut out, leaving him stranded and running on limited fuel. Just when it appears his luck is about to run out, a mysterious good Samaritan guides him to safety.”
