OTT Wars Heat Up In India, This OTT Platform Appoints Ex-Google Director As Head!

Sunil Rayan, ex-Managing Director for Google, is the new president and head of Star Network owned, Disney+ Hotstar. His predecessor, Ajit Mohan left in 2018 to head over to Facebook and since then the company was managed by Uday Shankar, Star and Disney India Chairman whom Rayan will report to now.

Prior to working in the Cloud for Games department in Google he worked as the Managing Director for Mobile App Ads Business. He has also worked at McKinsey & Company, IBM, Mastech and Infosys over the course of twenty years.

He is said to be an exciting talent that will help accomplish the streaming platform’s goal to become the largest content provider in the country. The platform already has over 1 crore subscribers in India and could be well on its way to reach 10 crore subscribers by 2025 under Ryan’s leadership.

Recently, K Madhavan also replaced Sanjay Gupta as the Country Manager of Disney and Star India in 2019 after the latter joined Google for the role of Country Manager and Vice President of Sales and Operations in India.

Disney+ Hotstar provides exclusive content from studios like Disney, Marvel, National Geographic and Pixar and also has a host of original TV shows and movies such as ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘The World According to Jeff Goldblum’, along with its pre-existing offers.
