Disney Plus Hotstar has just dropped the trailer of its upcoming direct digital release from Bollywood, titled ‘Gaslight‘. The trailer of the Sara Ali Khan starrer promises a gripping and eerie psychological thriller and murder mystery rolled into one. ‘Gaslight’ premieres on Disney Plus Hotstar on 31st March, 2023.
The ‘Gaslight’ trailer shows Meesha, Sara Ali Khan‘s wheel-chair-bound character, returning to her family palace, on her father, the Raja Sahab’s summons. But when she enters the palace, she’s greeted by Rukmini, played by the vivacious Chitrangada Singh, who seems to be her stepmother. Her father is nowhere to be found, but she’s convinced she’s seen him around. A shady police officer (Rahul Dev), a family friend (Akshay Oberoi) and Rukmini, team up to gaslight Meesha into thinking that she’s imagining things.
When her father’s dead body turns up in the vicinity, Meesha is convinced it’s murder. And she only has her father’s trusted aide Kapil (Vikrant Massey), to help her uncover the villain of the piece. However, there’s no saying whether he’s to be trusted or not.
‘Gaslight’ features an ensemble of characters, each with grey shades and an air of grim mystery surrounding them. The boasts a dark, unconventional plot, centering on gaslighting – a form of mental abuse and psychological manipulation, in which the abuser attempts to sow self-doubt and confusion in their victim’s mind by distorting reality and forcing them to question their own judgment and intuition.
‘Gaslight’ is directed by Pawan Kripalani, who has earlier directed horror comedy Bhoot Police, and thriller film, Phobia. The movie is produced by Ramesh Taurani, under his TIPS Films production banner.
