Disney+ Hotstar’s Horror Thriller ‘Lift’ Trailer Out: Streams Oct 1

Bigg Boss fame Kavin and actress Amritha Aiyer (of ‘Bigil’ fame) starrer, ‘Lift‘ is directed by debutant Vineeth Varaprasad, the trailer of which was released earlier this evening by actor Sivakarthikeyan. Produced by EKAA Entertainment, ‘Lift’ is a horror thriller that has both lead actors Kavin and Amritha playing IT professionals in the film. The latest buzz was that the film had been cleared by the Censor Board with a U/A certificate. Although the makers originally planned for a theatrical release, due to the second covid wave, they took a call to give the film a direct to OTT release. ‘Lift’ will now stream on Disney+ Hotstar from 1st October.

The trailer starts off at a regular pace, showing an IT office set up and gradually progresses into the main storyline, thereby showing lead actor Kavin, trapped in a lift. The plot then delves right into the horror genre, with strange happenings at the office space, with both lead actors trapped in this spooky situation. The trailer with a decent background score and some thrilling elements promises an interesting premise and may live up to expectations. From the looks of it, the trailer of ‘Lift’ seems intriguing and does give the idea that we may finally get a decent Kollywood horror movie after a long time, especially since the movie is touted to be the ‘Evil Dead’ of Tamil cinema.

The shooting of ‘Lift’ was completed before the lockdown in March last year and after the post-production work, we heard that the theatrical rights of the film were bagged by Libra Productions, though the plan then changed to a digital premiere. The song ‘Inna Mylu’ from the film, sung by actor Sivakarthikeyan has garnered 30 million views on YouTube so far and right from the motion poster release, ‘Lift’ has managed to create a good buzz. All in all, it appears as though Disney+ Hotstar has bagged a good regional release, though only time will tell if the investment proves worth it. ‘Lift’ premieres on Disney+ Hotstar on 1st October.
