The second official trailer for Marvel’s third web series, ‘Loki’, dropped a few hours ago and we finally get to see what our favourite villain has been upto. The previous trailer was a lot more vague, yet had some brilliant visuals, but the latest trailer has made waiting for June to come, all the more harder (that’s when the mini series will drop). The visuals are even more stunning than its predecessor and the short video gives a distinct dual vibe of both ‘Dr. Strange’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. Check out the trailer at the end of this article.
So let’s have a quick recap – Loki is dead in the original Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) timeline. He was killed by Thanos at the very beginning of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and that’s where his story was supposed to end. But just like in the comics, most of the fan favourite characters cannot die, especially if the actor who is portraying said characters still has a contract with Marvel Studios. In this case – when the Avengers went back in time to bring the Infinity Stones to the original timeline they accidentally helped Loki escape with the Tesseract AKA The Space Stone.
And this is where the series will begin. We expect Loki to have escaped somewhere far away and was probably enjoying his freedom on some planet or the other before the “Time Variance Authority” (TVA) tracked him down for taking the Tesseract out of the time stream continuum. The TVA exists in a place outside of time called the “Null-Time Zone” and that is where Loki is shown to be, in the trailer. He gets recruited by Mobius M. Mobius to correct his own mistake by returning the Tesseract to its original reality.
Finally, Loki will get to step out of his brother’s shadow and do something about an upcoming crisis on his own, but knowing Loki, will he really want to? …Maybe. But Tom Hiddleston has brought nuance to this “Thor villain”, making him more complex and “human”, which was probably why this character was finally given a series, just about himself. Of course, there is still one burning question regarding the Marvel series – if Loki returns the Stone to the original timeline, does that mean he will end up dying in the hands of Thanos all over again? We hope not, and we hope the TV series will acknowledge and answer this query.
Disney+ Hotstar’s ‘Loki’ will drop on the OTT platform for streaming on June 11th 2021.
