Disney Plus Cancels Willow After One Season

Willow is not coming back for Season 2 on the Disney+ streaming platform.

According to Deadline, Lucasfilm’s live-action fantasy adventure series has been cancelled by the streaming service after Season 1, which consisted of eight episodes. It served as a sequel to Ron Howard’s 1988 movie.

The Warwick Davis starrer did not create a Mandalorian-sized cultural impact but received good critical reception, earning an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The cancellation comes one month after Disney+ suffered its first quarterly subscriber loss between October 2022 to December 2022, losing more than 2.4 million subscribers during this period. Additionally, the streaming giant got price hikes in both its premium and ad-supported tiers last year.

The series served as a perfect callback to the original film. Also, it treasured alluring cinematography, an engaging storyline, and outstanding performances. The show’s events take place 20 years after the defeat of Queen Bavmorda. However, an unexpected but dangerous threat from Gales forces an unlikely group of six heroes to go on a perilous quest where they must slay their inner demons and save the world together.

Disney+ has thrown Willow out of its slate. However, the streaming platform is working on numerous Star Wars projects, including the ongoing Season 3 of The Mandalorian, Andor, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, and many more. Indian viewers can watch Willow Season 1 on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
