After months of speculation on will they, won’t they, Disney Plus has finally announced what every fan of the Goosebumps series has been waiting for. The streamer has renewed the show for a Season 2, and has also promised that Goosebumps Season 2 is coming very soon — sooner than you think. The first season of Goosebumps had premiered on Disney Plus, Hulu and Disney Plus Hotstar on 13th October, 2023.
Interestingly, Disney Plus plans to turn the Goosebumps series into an anthology show, much like hit horror show, American Horror Story. The original plan was to tell the beloved story in the conventional serialised form, followed by most Disney Plus shows. Goosebumps Season 2 will consist of 8 episodes, unlike Season 1 that had 10 episodes.
Disney Plus’ ‘Goosebumps’ series is based on R. L. Stines’ beloved horror novels for young adults. The series is a reboot of sorts, of the two Goosebumps movies (released in 2015 & 2018) and the 1995 TV series. By adopting the anthology format of storytelling for Goosebumps Season 2, Disney Plus harks back to the original Goosebumps TV show of 1995, which was also an anthology show.
Goosebumps Season 2 will have a completely different cast, story and setting from Season 1. The debut season of Goosebumps had ended on a cliffhanger. Looks like creators Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller plan to ditch that story altogether, unresolved ending notwithstanding.
The official synopsis of Goosebumps Season 2 as shared by Disney Plus reads – “Teenage siblings discover a threat within their home, setting off a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in the story of five teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”
