The rat race to become India’s number one OTT platform is still on. All leading streamers your can think of, are a part of this race. After the release of Dil Bechara, we can see results and readings show that Disney+Hotstar is overtaking!
Amazon Prime Video made the first move when they announced Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khuranna starrer ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ followed by biopic Shakuntala Devi, starring Vidya Balan and regional movies like, Penguin, Law, French Biryani and Sufiyam Sujayatham. Though some of these already released direct-to-digital films involved well known faces, the movies did not perform as expected. You can say they were not completely successful. Even if Prime Video decides on more releases, chances are that people might not be keen on watching it on their platform anymore.
On the other hand Disney+Hotstar played smarter by gaining rights to Dil Bechara. It stars our departed star Sushant Singh Rajput and as a tribute to him, nearly everyone tuned in to watch. Though there is a sentiment for Sushant Singh Rajput, the film is also a decent watch. Hotstar opened its account with a blockbuster and it has been less than 24 hours.
The success of its first Bollywood digital release will interest more viewers. Audience will keenly wait to watch what does Disney+Hotstar offer henceforth. Next in line are – Lootcase, Laxxmi Bomb, Bhuj, Khuda Haafiz, Sadak 2, and the Big Bull. Let’s see if these films perform at par will Dil Bechara. If yes, other OTT platforms will have to beware because Disney+Hotstar is here to stay!
