After a successful launch in India, Disney+Hotstar is now foraying into the South East Asian market with Indonesia being the first stop. The streaming service will start operations in Indonesia form 5th September 2020 onwards.
When Hotstar joined hands with Disney in March 2020, the already popular streaming platform in India opened an altogether new vista for the audience here. The OTT platform is expecting to replicate the same in the South East Asian market starting with Indonesia.
While announcing the good news Disney CEO Bob Chapek said, “I’m happy to announce that we will also be rolling out Disney+ Hotstar on Sept 5 in Indonesia, one of the world’s most populous countries. By year-end, Disney+ will be available in nine of the top 10 economies in the world.”
Disney+Hotstar in India currently offers both free and paid content via multiple subscription models. The OTT platform is constantly bringing on new and innovative content on the platform. It already has Hamilton that got rave reviews from all over the world. Then there are these latest bollywood flicks lined up for release on the platform with some big stars featuring in them. The platform also boasts a wide range of shows and movies, both Indian and international.
Disney+Hotstar’s new journey is a step towards growing its presence around the world as has earlier been done by Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. It might be a little late on that front from its peers, but the strong and slightly different business model of the platform can be a defining factor in it’s success.
