It was reported earlier that upcoming Tamil rom-com, ‘Oh Manapenne’ starring Harish Kalyan and Priya Bhavani Shankar in the lead, is getting a direct-to-OTT release. The film helmed by debutant director Kaarthikk Sundar has skipped theatres and is releasing directly on Disney Plus Hotstar on 22nd October, the trailer of which has just dropped today. ‘Oh Manapenne’ is the official Tamil remake of the 2016 Telugu hit ‘Pelli Choopulu’, directed by Tharun Bhascker that starred Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma in lead roles.
The trailer of ‘Oh Manapenne’ was released by actor Karthi earlier this evening. The plot revolves around a young man who aspires to be a chef, much against his father’s will. He meets a girl through a mistaken matchmaking error, who is also disappointed with her father’s attitude towards her business skills. The two get together to start a food truck, that turns out to be a massive success, until the couple part ways. From the trailer, the film looks like an honest remake, maintaining most elements of the original. The narrative has all the elements of a light, breezy watch – humour, emotion, drama and romance.
Incidentally, ‘Pelli Choopulu’ has also been remade in Hindi as ‘Mitron’ and in Malayalam as ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’. ‘Oh Manapenne’ has had the right amount of buzz since the beginning and fans are eager to watch the fresh pairing of the two lead actors. The makers have taken a safe bet with their decision to release the film digitally. Actor Harish Kalyan is currently basking in the success of ‘Kasada Thapara’, that also released digitally earlier this year. Watch ‘Oh Manapenne’ that premieres on Disney+Hotstar on 22nd October.
