Disney’s Percy Jackson TV Series Finally Gets Its Immortals

The ‘Percy Jackson’ series being created for Disney+ has been a very buzzy project. After the disappointing film adaptations of Rick Riordan’s books, fans are hopeful the series will be a better representation of the ‘Greek mythology meet modern world’ book series. After the reveals of three of the main characters, Disney has finally revealed some of the immortal beings set to appear in the series.

Actors Adam Copeland (Vikings), Suzanne Cryer (Silicon Valley), and Jessica Parker Kennedy(The Flash) are the latest addition to the cast and are set to play Ares, Echidna, and Medusa respectively. While Ares and Medusa are well known, Echidna the lesser-known character is described as the Mother of Monsters. The character is said to be “dangerous, intimidating, and strangely maternal. She enjoys her task of challenging heroes and will test Percy’s faith in the gods.”

Per the official series synopsis, “‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson (Scobell), who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover (Simhadri) and Annabeth (Jeffries), Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.”

While the first movie showed all of the happenings of the first book in a condensed form, we will get to see a more detailed take in the first season. If managed well, the series has the potential to be one of the biggest shows ever made on OTT. Disney revealed a first look of the Percy Jackson series at D23 in September, to fans’ surprise. The series will be led by Walker Scobell who will play the title character, the demigod son of Poseidon. The series does not have a release date yet.
