Disney’s Planet Of The Apes Sequel: First Look, Cast Revealed!

A trilogy well known to all true science-fiction fans is the critical and commercial hit ‘Planet of The Apes’ film franchise. Now, in the latest development to the already announced sequel, Disney has revealed the first look and the cast of the much-awaited venture.

The sequel to 2017’s ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ has been titled ‘Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes‘. The movie has been in development at Disney for quite some time. The movie will be directed by Wes Ball who is known for helming the dystopian science fiction ‘Maze Runner’ with Joe Hartwick Jr. and David Starke serving as producers. Owen Teague, known for the comedy series ‘Mrs. Fletcher’ and for his appearance in the ‘It’ film franchise will play the lead role as the ape Cornelius.

The most recent entries to the cast that has spiked up the interest in the film are that of Freya Allen and Peter Macon. Freya is now a well-known name after her breakout role in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ as Princess Ciri opposite Henry Cavill’s Geralt and Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer. Though she only had a small role in the first season, she has more than impressed us with her performance in the second season. Peter Macon is known for the comedy-drama series Orville.

According to Ball, the story will take place after the events of ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, and continue to follow Caesar’s legacy. With production set to start next month, the humongous project is slated for a 2024 release.

In 2019, Disney acquired the entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox including 20th Century Fox. That year, Disney announced that further sequels to the Planet of the Apes’ 2011 reboot film series are in production. The films have grossed a total of over US$2 billion worldwide, against a combined budget of $567.5 million, and were a huge cash cow for the company.

With the movie coming more than 6 years after the last film in the franchise, we do hope the film will be a deserving sequel that can take forward the legacy left by the previous films.
