The world of music and its people are no strangers to the concept of making documentaries and being part of them. With the upcoming release of Shawn Mendes’s documentary “In Wonder”, people are getting excited to see the insightful story of this young musical prodigy who has achieved so much in this small amount of time.
Shawn Mendes is not the first one in recent times to get his own documentary. There have been plenty of artists who have built up documentaries to connect to the fans. Now the question arises, why does a music star need to be in a documentary? The reasons are endless but the most common reason one needs to make a movie is to share their lives with the fans, to show them how actually things work around them or how they work to bring out music and content. Most of the time, documentaries or a movie is made when a music star is starting his or her much anticipated tour or album release or comebacks. Some movies show how they all of a sudden turned into a global phenomenon from someone who never had a high ranking on the charts.
Earlier YouTube was the global platform for all these stars to release their documentaries to tell their stories, but now the focus has changed. Streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have picked up these shows and films and helped them to garner more attention. Now, not only they have successful music under their name, but they also have movies produced by them too.
Still the question remains why do they want to make a whole movie based on very private matters in their lives, while they still ask, to give them privacy? Well, the answer can basically be that, in their movies they can answer the most happening fan theories and fan questions and even tweak it if they want, not saying they do but only “if” they want according to them. We always have this notion that if they are making this documentary, it will be based on their true raw lives. But we can never be sure of that.
If one needs to talk about such a topic, they can go on and on but we will never know the true answer. Yes, one thing is for sure that we do get very deep insight on their lives, like why did they take a break? What happened? What inspired their music? and most importantly the love they have for their fans and vice versa. There are so many documentaries at the moment that are brilliant and show the lives of these artists. Some really amazing ones are, Taylor Swift: Miss Americana (Netflix), Chasing Happiness (Amazon Prime Video), Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams (Amazon Prime Video), Amy (Netflix), BlackPink: Light Up the Sky (Netflix), Homecoming: A Film By Beyonce (Netflix), Gaga: Five Foot Two (Netflix).
We might not know what is true or false but as a fan we can just love them and support them in their endeavours.
