Adam Sandler is much more than a comedy actor. Yes, he has acted in numerous disastrous flicks and faced criticism for sticking to a specific type of comedic style in his career. But he has also worked in some amazing movies, such as The Wedding Singer (1998), Punch-Drunk Love (2002), Anger Management (2003), Funny People (2009), The Meyerowitz Stories (2017), Hustle (2022), and more. One of his best acting performances has come in Uncut Gems (2019).
Uncut Gems revolves around a jewellery store owner, Howard Ratner (Sandler), who is also a gambling addict. He finds himself in high amounts of debt. He attempts to retrieve a highly expensive gem he bought to pay off his debts. This scenario forces Howard to commence a journey filled with chaos, deceit, and relentless pursuit. We get a jaw-dropping finale in the end, which results from his compulsive behaviour.
This directional project from Benny and Josh Safdie is one hell of a highly intense rollercoaster ride. In addition, Daniel Lopatin’s intense musical score maintains the film’s momentum throughout. Overall, it is a must-watch!
