If you like films that deal with the self-discovery of characters. Be it ‘Tamasha’ or ‘The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty’, such films always have a very special place in our hearts. ‘Into The Wild’ is one such film. It is an adventure drama, and tells the story of Christopher McCandless who left human civilization to check his own capabilities of living on the edge.
The movie is directed by Sean Penn, who is known for his beautiful storytelling in movies like ‘The Pledge’, ‘The Indian Runner’ etc. ‘Into The Wild’ stars Emile Hirsch in the lead role and has actors like Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt, Jena Malone, Catherine Keener, Brian H. Dierker, Vince Vaughn, Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Stewart etc. The performances are beautiful and the pace of the movie is slow but smooth. And it does not bore you or try to preach you in any way.
The movie is adapted from the novel of the same name by John Krakauker. The movie (and novel) chronicles Christopher McCandless’s story of being a scholar to a ‘supertramp’. Christopher left his college and home to go away to Alaska and live without money. He went on an epic adventure and managed to make many friends but eventually died after consuming a toxic weed. The movie will make you smile and make you weep. If you have not seen ‘Into The Wild’ yet, now is your time.
