Anurag Kashyap directorial ‘Dobaaraa‘ dropped on Netflix India on 15th October, 2022. This science-fiction mystery thriller film is an official remake of the 2018 Spanish film Mirage. Although the film theatrically released on 19th August to positive reviews, the box office collections were terrible.
However, it seems like the general streaming audience would eventually watch the film on Netflix given its theme is time travel. Even if the original film ‘Mirage‘ is available on Netflix India, the Anurag Kashyap factor anchoring Dobaaraa cannot be ignored. Within hardly two days, Dobaaraa has dethroned Aamir Khan Starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha‘ on Netflix India trends. Since October 6th, the day when Laal Singh Chaddha silently dropped on the streaming platform, it was reigning at the top most position consistently. After almost 11 days, Tapsee Pannu starrer Dobaaraa has overtaken the Aamir Khan film and it seems like the film will stay on top atleast for a week now.
Although the ranking on Netflix India Top 10 Movies might keep changing, the cumulative views gained by Laal Singh chaddha worldwide would be much much higher than Dobaaraa. Simply because of the difference in star-cast and appeal of both the films. While Laal Singh Chaddha as a film appeals to everyone, Dobaaraa’s appeal is restricted to the younger generation.
While one can infer that both the films despite being respectively good at their genres and being faithful remakes, was paid dust at the theatres. Hopefully, the streaming audience would give Dobaaraa the same amount of love they gave to Laal Singh Chaddha post Netflix release.
