Anurag Kashyap‘s upcoming directional Dobaaraa will release in theatres on August 19. The Taapsee Pannu starrer tackles the tricky concept of time travel and treasures all the elements of being a perfect mystery drama. Also, the film has been in the buzz after receiving an outstanding response at this year’s London Film Festival. However, the leading day and the helmer want the viewers to boycott the film. Here’s why!
The trend of boycotting Bollywood movies is spreading like a wildfire on social media these days. Whenever people start thinking that a film or a tv series is offensive or hurting their sentiments, they start boycotting it. Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha can be taken as the epitome of this scenario. Mr Perfectionist’s comments about growing intolerance in India ended up enraging a lot of people. As a result, those people started trending #boycottlaalsinghchaddha on Twitter and other social media platforms.
Kashyap revealed how he wanted people to boycott Dobaaraa in a recent interview, “I am feeling left even I want ki meri film boycott karo please make our film trend on Twitter by boycotting.”
Pannu added, “Yes please boycott Dobaaraa trend karva do we also want to get a trend on Twitter.”
With these statements, the director-actress duo have pointed out how the “boycott trend” is helping big-budget movies in attracting more viewers. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat received a huge backlash from many people, especially in Rajasthan, before its theatrical release. However, the trend of boycotts aided the movie in collecting more than 580 crores worldwide. This trend has hiked significantly in the last few years and it helps the films in getting more attention.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Dobaaraa has been bankrolled by Sunir Khetarpal’s Athena and Ekta Kapoor’s Cult Movies. It is the official Indian adaptation of Oriol Paulo’s 2018 Spanish mystery drama, Mirage. It will release in India on August 19. Stay tuned for more updates.
