The trailer for Taapsee Pannu‘s upcoming film ‘Dobaaraa’ has just been launched. The makers chose to launch the trailer at the magic hour of 2:12 – ‘do baaraa’ in words (in Hindi), in a bid to amp up the mystery and thrill around the movie. ‘Dobaaraa’ hits theatres on August 19, on the day of Janmashtami, which is a holiday at most places in India.
The Dobaaraa trailer gives us a hint of the fantastical story at the heart of the film. An electrical storm takes place as Taapsee Pannu’s character is setting up a new home with her husband and daughter. The storm takes place exactly 26 years after a similar storm in the past had far-reaching consequences. The present-day electrical storm triggers a chain of events, allowing Taapsee Pannu’s character to communicate with a young boy, 26 years in the past. The storm alters her present too, and as she struggles to make sense of the weird events around her, she discovers the mystery of a murder that had taken place in the past.
The Dobaaraa trailer is well-cut and sets up the mystery quite well. The film stars Taapsee Pannu, Pavail Gulati and Rahul Bhat in pivotal roles. It is directed by Anurag Kashyap, and produced by Ekta and Shobha Kapoor under their banner Balaji Motion Pictures. Sunil Kheterpal and Gaurav Bose are also the producers of Dobaaraa, along with Balaji Motion Pictures.
Interestingly, ‘Dobaaraa‘ is a remake of the 2018 Spanish movie ‘Mirage’, available to stream on Netflix. Netflix has also bought the post-theatrical streaming rights for Dobaaraa, which will also thus stream on Netflix post its theatrical run.
