‘Doctor G’ Trailer: Social Comedy Genre Overkill for Ayushmann?

esterday, it was revealed through a first look poster that Ayushmann Khurrana’s forthcoming movie ‘Doctor G’ will be released in theatres on 14th October. And just now, the makers have unveiled the official trailer for the medical campus based social comedy film (attached below).

Doctor G’ trailer showcases the brilliant comic timing of Ayushmann Khurrana, his dialogue delivery, one-liners, and his endearing screen presence. Set amidst the backdrop of a medical college campus in Bhopal, ‘Doctor G’ boasts of an interesting premise where Ayushmann Khurrana’s character is portrayed as the only male student who unwillingly ends up in the gynaecology department, despite his penchant for orthopaedics. And from there begins his everlasting humorous struggle to find a place in a segment dominated by females.

‘Doctor G’ has been directed by Anubhuti Kashyap (Director of dark-comedy show ‘Afsos’ featuring Gulshan Devaiah) and it will mark her feature-film directorial debut. Besides Ayushmann Khurrana as Dr. Uday Gupta, the film also features ‘Runway 34’ actress Rakul Preet Singh essaying the role of a medical student Dr. Fatima, Shefali Shah as Dr. Nandini, and Sheeba Chaddha as Ayushmann’s mother.

It will be interesting to see whether ‘Doctor G’ will be rather reminiscent of Ayushmann’s previous social comedy films or hopefully turn out to be an entertaining yet different movie with a relevant social message. We just hope that ‘Doctor G’ wouldn’t be an overkill and social comedy genre saturation point for Ayushmann Khurrana. However, things seem to be looking good so far from the trailer.

Ayushmann Khurrana, who was last seen in Anubhav Sinha’s action thriller ‘Anek’, started off his career as a radio jockey. He swiftly shot to fame after winning the reality show ‘MTV Roadies’ post which he became a successful television anchor. He got his first feature film break as the leading actor in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Vicky Donor’ where he was cast opposite Yami Gautam.

Eventually, Ayushmann went on to deliver praiseworthy performances in slice-of-life, feel-good, and socially relevant films like ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ (co-starring Bhumi Pednekar), ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ (co-starring Rajkumar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, and Kriti Sanon), Sriram Raghavan’s ground-breaking mystery-thriller ‘Andhadhun’ (co-starring Tabu and Radhika Apte), ‘Bala’ (co-starring Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam) and Anubhav Sinha’s hard-hitting ‘Article 15’. He would next be seen alongside Ananya Panday and Paresh Rawal in ‘Dream Girl 2’. Meanwhile, watch the ‘Doctor G’ trailer below.
