Doctor Strange Helmer Scott Derrickson to Direct Skydance’s The Gorge

One of Hollywood’s modern era horror maestros, Scott Derrickson, is ready to helm Skydance’s upcoming project, The Gorge. The movie will bestow a lot of high-action sequences with just enough elements of romance. Deadline first broke this piece of news on the internet.

According to Deadline’s report, Skydance managed to acquire Zach Dean’s script a year ago through a highly fierce bidding process. Additionally, the company secretly started working on the project a little while ago. Derrickson’s production company, Crooked Highway, will produce the upcoming action film. Furthermore, we have Skydance’s Dana Goldberg, David Ellison, and Don Granger as the movie’s producers.

Derrickson has helmed various horror instalments like The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, Hellraiser: Inferno, and Deliver Us from Evil in his career. But he is most prominent for directing Doctor Strange (2016). He was Marvel Studios’ first choice to sit on the director’s chair for the movie’s sequel. Also, he wanted to make Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness the first-ever Marvel horror project. However, his creative differences with the studio resulted in his exit from the DS sequel’s production work. The original Spider-Man trilogy fame, Sam Raimi, replaced him as the new helmer of Multiverse of Madness sometime later. This scenario forced Derrickson to shift his focus on The Black Phone, scheduled for a worldwide release in June this year with Ethan Hawke in the lead.

Skydance has not yet revealed anything about The Gorge’s plot. Also, we are clueless about the film’s casting. But we do know that the studio has hired Scott Derrickson to helm this one. Let’s see how this scenario turns out in future. Stay tuned for more updates.
