Netflix has confirmed the production of ‘Hard Cell’, a new comedy series from Catherine Tate. The ‘Doctor Who’ actress has not only written and directed the six-part women’s prison mockumentary but also stars in it. ‘Hard Cell’ will launch only on Netflix in 2022.
The official synopsis for ‘Hard Cell’ reads, “A new Netflix comedy series written and directed by Catherine Tate set in a women’s prison. Tate plays multiple characters as a documentary crew follows the inmates and staff of HMP Woldsley capturing the penal system at its brutal humorous best.”
This latest Netflix series is executive produced by Leopard Pictures’ Kristian Smith. Talking about the show Smith said, “We cannot wait to show audiences on Netflix the inside of HMP Woldsley, our fictional prison occupied by the fantastic creations of Catherine Tate. This series is funny and touching all at once, revealing what life might be like in a British women’s correctional facility.”
On the other hand Tate, who has won multiple awards for her work on the BBC sketch comedy series The Catherine Tate Show, said, “Exciting aint it? Exciiiiiiiiiiiting!!!”
Tate’s other notable credits include shows like ‘The Office’, ‘Big School’ and films like ‘Mrs. Ratcliffe’s Revolution’, ‘Gulliver’s Travel’, ‘Monte Carlo’, ‘Super Bob’ and many more.
