For those who don’t already know Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar is fondly referred to as ‘Thala’ by his fans and followers. For many years now, the term ‘Thala’ had been associated with Ajith Kumar, and it packs a whole lot of emotional connect with his ardent followers. But now, Ajith has asked his fans and media not to call him ‘Thala’ henceforth. “To The Respected members of the Media, public and genuine fans. I henceforth wish to be referred to as Ajith, Ajith Kumar or Just AK n not as “Thala” or any other prefix b4 my name. I sincerely wish you all a beautiful life filled with Good health, happiness, success, peace of mind, and contentment forever,” Ajith stated in his open letter to the media today.
This comes weeks before the theatrical release of Ajith’s Valimai, which will be out in theatres this Pongal season. Speaking of which, the makers of Valimai released the promo of a new song from the film earlier today. Titled ‘Mother Song’ this soulful number is crooned by Sid Sriram and the full lyrical video will be out on the 5th of December.
Now, coming to the topic, Ajith isn’t the first South Indian superstar to ask fans not to use any prefix while referring to him. Recently, Pawan Kalyan also asked his fans and followers to stop calling him ‘Power Star’. On a couple of occasions, Pawan strictly advised his fans not to call him ‘Power Star’. “My political opponents say I am a powerless person and you(fans) keep calling me power star. Don’t call me power star anymore,” he said recently.
In the case of Pawan Kalyan, he asked people not to use any prefix before his name for political reasons. He felt a filmy prefix like Power Star wouldn’t align with his political interests. He felt the Power Star title would make him look like a mere film actor in the eyes of the voters. So, he dissociated from the prefix. As in the case of Ajith, his decision ot dissociate from Thala prefix is purely a personal choice.
