Don’t Miss Out On This Lesser Known Netflix Gem

There are films meant for escaping from the reality and then there are those who make you question the world you live in. Our today’s recommendation is one such hard hitting female centric drama that leaves a long lasting impact.

We are talking about Ivan Ayr’s crime drama film ‘Soni’ on Netflix. Ayr got the idea for the film in 2014 when he came across articles that showed how Delhi wasn’t safe for women. And that got him to wonder how the female officers reacted to such crimes against women. He then wrote the script for ‘Soni’ alongside Kislay and the film premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival, receiving a standing ovation.

‘Soni’ follows a short-fused policewoman and her level-headed female boss, who while fighting crimes against women in Delhi, grapple with gender issues in their own lives and suffer significant professional and personal setbacks.

The film received great critical acclaim specially for its direction and performances. ‘Soni’ is subtle, unique and hard hitting. It makes you question how safe is it for a common woman when a policewoman herself doesn’t feel safe in the city she resides in.

Produced by Kimsi Singh and Kartikeya Narayan Singh, ‘Soni’ stars Geetika Vidya Ohlyan and Saloni Batra in the lead roles. ‘Soni’ is currently streaming on Netflix and if you haven’t seen this gem yet, this is your cue to do so now.
