DreamWorks Animation projects are not known for their high-class quality like Pixar’s. But they know how to play with the audience’s heartstrings as they bestow them with just enough humour, drama, and emotions in their animated flicks. Maybe that’s why DreamWorks’ projects often get overlooked by viewers and critics. One of the most highly underrated animated films from the studio is Turbo (2013), starring Ryan Reynolds.
Turbo is a story about a snail, Theo (Reynolds), who dreams about becoming a successful racer. He receives his powers by accident. His goal inspires him to take part in the Indianapolis 500. On his journey, he befriends other snails as well. Despite all the odds, we see Turbo taking on human drivers and displaying courage and bravery in the film.
Turbo stands out in terms of visuals and quality of animation. The racing sequences are perfectly executed in the film. Also, one of the movie’s strong points is how it establishes the protagonist as a real deal. In addition, it is family-friendly and contains an inspirational vibe.
Critics have given mostly positive reviews about the animated flick. It currently has a rating of 67% ‘fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 114 reviews.
Turbo stars Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Snoop Dogg, Maya Rudolph, Samuel L. Jackson, and Michelle Rodriguez. It is available on Netflix! Enjoy!
