It’s the weekend and, as always, we are back again to solve your weekend binge-watch dilemma. Today, we recommend a performance-driven and must-watch but a relatively understated Indian film featuring no big superstar. We suggest you watch a film called ‘Milestone’, which is streaming on the Netflix OTT platform. The film premiered at the eminent Venice International Film Festival in 2020 before it was acquired by Netflix.
‘Milestone’ aka ‘Meel Patthar’ is headlined by the immensely talented performer Suvinder Vicky. A rather unknown name back then when the film was released around two years back on Netflix, Suvinder Vicky is the same actor who has flabbergasted us with his earnest performances as a Punjabi cop in two recent Netflix series ‘Kohrra’ and ‘CAT’.
‘Milestone’ is a slice-of-life drama which revolves around an experienced truck driver Ghalib’s life (played by Suvinder Vicky), who is still trying to come to terms with his wife’s demise. Ghalib’s truck has just crossed the 500,000 kms mark but he suddenly begins to experience back pain. As a result, the middle-aged protagonist is now on the verge of possibly losing his job as he is given the task of training an intern.
With a runtime of around 1 hour and 40 minutes, the film has been directed by engineer turned filmmaker Ivan Ayr, who is known for helming another critically admired slice of life film called ‘Soni’ (also streaming on Netflix).
As far as critical acclaim is concerned, ‘Milestone’ received positive feedback from multiple critics despite its relaxed pace and offbeat story. And Suvinder Vicky’s riveting performance is one of the film’s major highlights.
