Supremely talented Paul Giamatti has joined the cast of Downtown Abbey 3. Alongside Giamatti, the third entry will have talents like Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, Arty Froushan, and Joely Richardson.
Giamatti will reprise his role of Harold Levinson, the brother of Cora Grantham (played by Elizabeth McGovern) in the television series. His popularity has surged substantially after scoring an Oscar nomination for his scintillating performance as Paul Hunham, an ill-tempered teacher.
However, there is no word yet on who Froushan, Beale, Nivola, and Richardson will play in the threequel.
Moreover, ‘Downtown Abbey’ regulars, such as McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Laura Carmichael, Joanne Froggatt, Penelope Wilton, Michael Fox, Kevin Doyle, Brendan Coyle, and more will return for the third film.
The first Downtown Abbey movie (2019) earned critical acclaim and minted over $194 million at the global box office. Its 2022 sequel, A New Era, grossed over $92 million globally and received positive reviews. Both films have stemmed from the original series created by Julian Fellowes, which ran from 2010 to 2015 and had a total of six seasons.
Fellowes has also penned down the script of Downtown Abbey 3. Simon Curtis will return to helm this one as well, after directing its 2022 predecessor. Carnival Films will produce the project, with Universal Pictures and Focus Features taking care of its worldwide distribution. Stay tuned for more updates.
