‘Drishyam’ was a cult favourite when it released back in 2015 and when the original’s that good, it often is difficult for the sequel to match up to it. But looks like ‘Drishyam 2’ (Hindi) is actually living up.
Ajay Devgn’s ’Drishyam 2’ is currently running in theatres and is doing amazing as of now, going by the officially released box office collections (Day1: 15.38cr India Biz.), critic reviews and above all the audience’s response.
‘Drishyam 2’ (Hindi) is being praised for the thrill quotient, brilliant performances by the ensemble, gripping storyline that’s full of twists and turns accompanied by DSP’s background score. Special mentions are being made for Ajay Devgn and Akshaye Khanna who have both shown some solid acting prowess in the film.
Moreover, the Ajay Devgn starrer has now got second highest opening of 2022 among Hindi films, surpassing the blockbuster ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’. Alongside, Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Uunchai’, ‘Drishyam 2’ is helping rejuvenate the cinema industry and most probably Varun Dhawan’s ’Bhediya’ will aid in this as it releases next week.
Looking at the success of ‘Drishyam 2’ (Hindi) one can realise how big an opportunity was missed by the original Malayalam version when it went for a digital release, even if it was an inevitable situation at the time. Come to think of it, the original not releasing in theatres and the unavailability of the Hindi dub on OTT is actually catalysing Drishyam 2’s success presently.
Directed by Abhishek Pathak who adapted the screenplay along with Aamil Keeyan Khan, ‘Drishyam 2’ is an investigative thriller drama set seven years after the murder case related to Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) and his family was closed. Everything was running smoothly for the family of four until the case reopens.
‘Drishyam 2’ stars Ajay Devgn, Akshay Khanna, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapur, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav among others. Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak are the producers for ‘Drishyam 2’.
