Sometimes makers take a decision that belittles their own scope of marketing. If you closely remember then Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda created a wave on Disney+Hotstar. It was trending insanely on the platform and created a benchmark that even direct to OTT films can’t match.
Bheemla Nayak was released yesterday at 12 AM and according to the buzz, it should have been close if not more successful than Akhanda. But Alas! Unlike Akhanda, Bheemla Nayak was not a single OTT release and dropped simultaneously on Disney+Hotstar and Aha Video. This has severely impacted the performance of the film as it can’t even make it to the Top 20.
As you can see in the above chart, Bheemla Nayak is trending down at Number 22 and even heavily trolled film such as Maaran is performing much better than the Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati starrer action drama. On the other hand, Ranveer Singh’s 83 is unstoppable on not only Disney+Hotstar but Netflix as well. Needless to say, this terrible response has got a lot to do with the dual release where Aha Video snatched a lot of possible views from Disney+Hotstar.
But whatever the condition may be, Bheemla Nayak certainly had a lot more potential than it is currently receiving and a more appropriate strategy might have fixed it.
