Dub Disaster: JioHotstar Streams Tamil Content in Hindi

In a time when almost every platform is trying to reach more people with dubbed content, it’s clear, dub is the hero. It makes stories travel, helps language barriers disappear, and brings new audiences in. So, let’s be clear: the intention is solid.

But good intentions don’t mean much when the basics are ignored.

JioHotstar, one of India’s biggest streaming platforms, just made a blunder that’s hard to defend. They streamed a Tamil show, yes, a show made in Tamil, for Tamil audiences… in Hindi.

We’re talking about Office (no, not The Office), specifically Episode 65 of Season 1. Fans were eagerly waiting for the new episode that dropped on June 13. But when they hit play, what they got was not Tamil. It was the Hindi dub. No option, no switch, just Hindi. The Tamil version wasn’t uploaded at all.

Now, let’s be real; platforms mess up sometimes. A subtitle delay, a wrong thumbnail, even the occasional audio glitch. But forgetting to upload the original audio? That’s not a minor issue. That’s pure negligence.

Yes, the issue was eventually fixed. But it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. When you’re trying to be the biggest OTT platform out there, mistakes like this don’t go unnoticed.

Especially when it feels like the language, and the audience, was an afterthought.
