Dune: Part Two is scheduled to arrive in theatres worldwide on November 3. The sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 film boasts a supremely talented cast, comprising performers like Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh, and more. Apart from these guys, the sequel also has Academy Award nominee Austin Butler who will be seen portraying the character of Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. His character is Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’s nephew and planned successor of House Harkonnen. This gives a clear idea about the character’s significance in the upcoming sequel.
It seems like Villeneuve has taken a noticeable departure with Feyd-Rautha’s look from both David Lynch’s 1984 film and Frank Herbert’s novel. Butler’s character, with a shaven head, seems to have a more menacing and monstrous persona in the film. In addition, we witnessed his scenes in black and white format in the film’s official trailer. Those scenes could represent the Harkonnen homeworld, Giedi Prime.
Dune 2’s clips have also teased a high-stakes duel between Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen and Paul Atreides, which is related to one of the major plotlines in Herbert’s novel. Baron wants Feyd-Rautha as his successor and desires to see him as the ruler of Arrakis one day. Moreover, Butler’s character shares an intriguing connection with Paul in the source novel. Both Feyd-Rautha and Paul are the products of Bene Gesserit’s breeding program, an effort to find the one and only Kwisatz Haderach. According to a prophecy, Kwisatz Haderach will be born with clairvoyant powers and become the sisterhood’s messiah in future, aiding the group of female superbeings in guiding humanity to a better future.
Austin Butler has received praises for his portrayal of Feyd-Rautha from many of his cast members, including Stephen McKinley Henderson, who plays Thufir Hawat (the Mentat of House Atreides) in ‘Dune: Part Two’. In his recent interview on ‘This Is Purdue’ podcast, the actor praised Butler for his acting talent and attentiveness.
“[Austin] played a character that was not very happy with me at all, and he was quite chilling, and I was giving him back the looks, but when they say, “Cut,” he would come over and say, “Mr. Henderson, are you okay? Can I help you? Can I get you anything?” And he was just so nice. And then we’d go back to roll and he went, “Ugh.” He was on my case. So I just so appreciated Austin, a wonderful, wonderful person.”
Dune: Part Two will come out on November 3. Meanwhile, you can all watch Dune (2021) on Amazon Prime Video. Stay tuned for more updates.
