Dune Part Two Already Defeated Dune 1’s Domestic BO

Make some room for the first blockbuster of the year. You might be tired of hearing this, but the truth must be told and announced with glory. “Dune Part Two’s” run is simply astronomical, and though it needs to fasten its seatbelts for the bumpy ride ahead, “Dune Part Two,” as of now, is extremely promising.

And now, it has exceeded the entire domestic box office collection of Part One in just one week.

Talking about the domestic market, “Dune Part Two” managed to gross $111 million, which is definitely a strong shout, as in the approaching weekend, they will definitely strengthen their game. Though “Kung Fu Panda” might be strong competition, “Dune’s” audience base is prominently different from that of “Kung Fu Panda’s.”

Also, in comparison, “Dune Part One” managed to have a domestic run of $108.9 million in its lifetime, but there are certain factors that pull it down. Firstly, “Dune Part One” was definitely advertised, but it didn’t have nearly as much hype as Part Two.

Secondly, the makers chose a parallel streaming model where it wasn’t just screened in theaters, but HBO also got a big piece as well, slowing down the theatrical run. The majority of the market came from the international box office despite the US having the most potential. There were COVID restrictions too, which resulted in the dip in box office.

Talking about the division of finances, “Dune Part One’s” entire run consisted of only 25.1% domestic contribution, but that number is shifting as “Dune Part Two” manages to change the scenario with a 52.6% involvement from domestic fans.

Now, to break even, “Dune” needs to have a box office run of $500 million. Will it be able to do that? Only time will tell, but with a rating of 8.9 on IMDb and 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, “Dune” does deliver in grandeur and quality.
