Dune’s Win Still Didn’t Benefit Box-office Massively

Dune is definitely the first blockbuster of the year and is breeding some strong box-office numbers, but how big was this week’s Box-office?

Talking about the earnings of Dune 2 as an individual movie, it did come out stellar, but the overall box-office statistics didn’t come out as staggering as you might expect. This could have been a bit stronger; at least that’s what the fans are expecting and anticipating.

Talking about the weekend statistics, this week’s top 10 managed to gross $109M, and the entire weekend BO grossed $114M. Though comparatively, from recent weeks, the number is definitely big; last week, the entire BO was worth $60M.

But the overall box-office wasn’t the biggest of the year, especially if you talk about the overall numbers. The extended week of January 12-15th came out as $117M. January BO is usually slow, though it had the strong debut of Mean Girls and The Beekeeper.

Compared to last year, Avatar managed to sweep the January BO. The first three weeks of January grossed the $100M mark, but talking about the March market, Creed 3 managed to uplift the BO massively.

In March 3-5, 2023’s Box-office managed to gross $117M, which is indeed staggering. So, was it Dune’s fault?

Not at all, Dune 2 managed to perform phenomenally in the Box Office, but no movie was able to accompany it in the BO. Dune 2’s BO grossed $81.5M, but it is followed by Bob Marley’s biopic One Love, with a little $7.4M, quite disappointing.
