Duranga is an upcoming ZEE5 crime thriller show. The show is the official Indian adaptation of the hit K-drama, Flower of Evil. It stars Gulshan Devaiah, Drashti Dhami, Hera Mishra, Rajesh Khattar, Divya Seth, and many more. However, the forthcoming Hindi remake has come on the radar of many diehard Indian K-drama fans. They think that the makers will not do justice to the original 2020 K-drama series. On the other hand, some of them have praised Devaiah’s on-screen presence.
‘Flower of Evil’ is one of the most globally prominent K-dramas. Apart from its gripping plot and tone, the show earned praise for the performances of its leading duo, Lee Joon-gi and Moon Chae-won. The former also bagged the Best Artist Award at Asia Artist Awards 2020 for his sensational performance.
Will Duranga be able to top ‘Flower of Evil’? Well, it is a very tricky question to answer. The leading man, Gulshan Devaiah, is one of the biggest underdogs in Bollywood. There’s no doubt about that. He has displayed his phenomenal acting range in various flicks like Shaitaan, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Hunterrr, A Death in the Gunj, and many more. Now, viewers will see him playing a psychopathic killer who disguises himself as a perfect husband and a perfect father. His chilling presence made the trailer a lot better than what it could have been. It seems like he will do a bang-up job in the show.
Drashti Dhami’s inclusion in Duranga has sparked a huge debate on social media. Fans of the original K-drama series are unsure if the actress has what it takes to honour Chae-won’s unforgettable performance. And they are not wrong about that. All the dull moments in the show’s trailer featured the former daily soap queen. But, hey! How about we should not judge the book by its cover? Although, we cannot deny that her performance will play an important role in the show’s success or failure.
The makers of Duranga must succeed in all departments to hope for the show’s triumph on OTT. It is undoubtedly a near impossible task for the showrunners to repeat the success of ‘Flower of Evil’.
